Each time we apply for a building permit to add or replace a manufactured home, we GET DENIED BY THE GOVERNMENT. So many people NEED MORE AFFORDABLE HOUSING. The GOVERNMENT IS THE ONLY THING STOPPING US FROM CREATING AFFORDALBE HOUSING. Their draconian zoning regulations and over reaching authority dictate what we can and can’t do with our land and your land. In our case, the town of Hildebran has taken away our MHP zoning and thusly they emphatically state that no manufactured homes are allowed in a the mobile home park anymore. The lots that we have are ready with water, sewer, and electricity. As the working homeless population grows, the town cares not. We get heart wrenching calls like this every week. Unfortunately, we can’t help more people for 2 main reasons.
1) Government Zoning Regulations & Local Government Authority is Excessive and Overreaching to the point that the homes that do meet housing requirements can’t even be installed on land that is privately owned.
2) Facebook Blocks Our Affordable Housing Adds Due to Censorship Rules. We have learned to not give any links or contact information in our ads nor in our comments. This makes it increasingly difficult to help serve and communicate with a large number of people seeking housing.
THIS IS HOW AFFORDABLE HOUSING IS KILLED BY THE GOVERNMENT
In this hearing, the town of Hildebran took away the mobile home park overlay zoning that allowed affordable housing. I spoke at this hearing for the 300+ people that I had on a list, but nobody showed up in opposition to the zoning change. I asked for the tenants to show up to defend their homes from the zoning change but they too busy trying to survive and keep there homes. The town tried to condemn their homes after this hearing, but we rallied everyone together and repaired all of the frivolous violations and threats of condemnation & eviction. There are good stories and victories in the oppression. Help us fight against these oppressors with people power so that our working-class, disabled, and elderly can have some place affordable to call home.
